About Me

My Photo
I'm an art student with aspirations of breaking into the less than lucrative but ever appealing fields of illustration. Ideally, I'd like to break some ground with children's book illustration. My goal here is to get feedback, input, advice and overall get support in my goals! So in advance, thank you all!!

Updates and a Brain

Work in progress. Digital painting for a commission

In other news, I've had a chance to work with Paul Chandler again. But some grace of artistic good fortune he has opted to hire me again for a series of poem illustration, such as the one above. The greatest part of working with him is the freedom he allows. It's rare to work with a creator or client who gives you primary control. On most of the work he gives suggestions and guidance, and tons of patience but lets me have the liberty of most of the design and layout. Seriously. One of the best customers ever. In all honesty, I've had tons of success working with people. Either through my Etsy page, my direct page, or even through Tumblr nearly everyone has been amazing.

Art Postcard - Survey Question

It's nearly time for me to do another art postcard.

I need to make a decision to either use one of my recent images or to create a new one.

So here is my poll:
(Note: It can't be of commercially recognized or copyrighted designs, characters, or images)

Is there a recent image that I've done that you think would make a great postcard? And if so, which one?

or

Should I make a new design? And if so, of what?

Valentine's Day - Remembered

This year I didn't make my own cards but I wanted to share some that I made in the past.
Link went to my boyfriend, and the murlocks to my roommates. :)

St Jude

Though I’m not a religious person, I do love religious iconography. Also, this will end up as a birthday card for my mother who is very spiritual. It’s a depiction of St. Jude one of the Catholic patron saints.

Here is the final drawing image I drew in some simple clouds in the back. Then added some yellow hue to the center to give it a more natural light effect and to balance out all the blue and grey. I also did some very subtle green shading in the corners opposing the light to make it more balanced.
Final Critique:
I originally wanted this to be a more realistic image, one that looked more like a painting than an illustration. Am I unhappy with it? No. I feel like I learned a lot. Part of the goal of this instructor style approach is to get me to think more about what I’m doing and how. Instead of just flying on instinct. At least now when I look at this I know why I’m unhappy about certain parts and that makes it feel better. It feels like a learning point not a failure. The key things for my next piece.
-More planning
-Practice with realism
Special thank you to all of you readers who took the time to wade through the loads of in process posts. And to http://setinvader.tumblr.com/ for all the tips and comments.
Thank you everyone!!!

Shadowrun commission

My most recent Shadowrun commission is complete. It was a really fun to work on and the buyer is great to work with. One of the best things about getting feedback from buyers is that they see things that the artist doesn't. Often as we work on art, we miss the mistakes or places of improvement. We've been looking at it too long, or our eyes have glazed over it to focus on some other key.
ART Tip: Always get feedback. Find someone who can give honest and genuine feedback , both positive and negative. And most importantly, be open to it. The greatest failing of any artist is their pride.
